PENOBSCOT SNOWMOBILE CLUB

HERMON

March 2005

Do you remember the old saying, If you don’t like the weather in Maine just wait a little while and it will change? That certainly applies this week! The beginning of the week it was 45 degrees with bright sun melting all of our precious snow, and today the weatherman is calling for over a foot of snow with temperatures falling back to where they should be this time of year. Hopefully we will get enough to be able to actually do some grooming. Speaking of grooming, the trails around Hermon were a little rougher than some are used to. There were several factors as to why the trails were not like the usual mirrored glass that we have grown accustom to over the past few years. First and foremost on one of the very first trips out, the IMP lost an axle bearing and has been out of commission for quite some time. Second the limited amount of snow we did get at the beginning of the month was pretty well used up by the local crew of snowmobilers. If you want to know the trail conditions go to our website at www.sledhermon.net.

Many people have asked if the sled will be put back on the stream this year and the answer is yes! The Ice-Out contest will be underway when this article comes to print. The rules are easy. Guess a date and time when the sled will fall through the Wheeler Stream on Route 2. Then when the sled does finally go through, the person that guessed the closest to the actual time wins. Tickets are available from any member for your chance to win.

Watch for an update on the club trip next month in this column. I am sure there will be something of interest to publish after the trip! As we enter the last month of sledding I want to caution everyone to be safe and enjoy the snow while it lasts.
